The Virginia Knights of Columbus, District 1, held its 3rd annual KOVAR fundraising bowling tournament in Norfolk
on Saturday (August 26, 2023). About 50 people joined in the fun at the AMF Lanes. Council 418 from Portsmouth was
the sponsor of this year's tournament and raised about $1,750.00 for KOVAR. Local councils donated some great door
prizes which were a hit for the crowd. Everyone had an outstanding time. The winners were Virginians with Intellectual
Disabilities, who will receive the benefit of the funds.
His term begins July 1. The Board thanked John Cochran for his four year
service as President.
On July 8 KOVAR President Eddie Whitlock delivered the KOVAR report at the Virginia State
Council Knights of Columbus Organizational Meeting.
On August 12 the KOVAR Board had its bi-monthly Directors meeting at St. Mary's Church.
President Eddie Whitlock presented Immediate Past President John Cochran with a plaque
in recognition of his outstanding service.

KOVAR Board Members Dan Hurley and Eddie Whitlock presented honoree plaques to two organizations that received grants
last fraternal year. River City Inclusive Gymnastics in Manakin-Sabot received $15,000 to purchase specific fitness,
gymnastics, and therapeutic equipment to support students with intellectual disabilities. Honoree was Steve Lomaka from
Council 14129. SOAR365 received $20,000 to help replace the roof on the dining hall at Camp Baker in Chesterfield County.
Honoree was The Culinary Team at Council 14129.
The Richmond area KOVAR 50th Anniversary Celebration was
held on October 24, 2021. Twenty-year KOVAR Board Member
and a past president of the board Dan Hurley planned and
organized the event held at the Knights of Columbus Council #395
Fr. Robert W. McDonald Columbian Center in Henrico. Thanks to
The Abbate Agency and Field Agent Sal Filippelli for sponsoring
the social hour, Tom Giannasi of Council 395 and the Culinary
Team of Council 14129 for food preparation, and self-advocates
of Down Syndrome Association of Greater Richmond for assistance with food service.
